Farmers in Kherson region have received hundreds of millions of hryvnias in state support for damaged crops. These are payments accrued under applications submitted in 2025.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, 236 farms in the region received UAH 237.5 million in compensation. According to the regional authorities, the area of lost crops is about 52 thousand hectares.
The financial assistance is provided under the updated mechanism for supporting farmers, which was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2025. The program is aimed at compensating for losses caused by hostilities and adverse weather conditions.
Under the terms, compensation is available to agricultural producers operating in areas of possible or active hostilities. The amount of payments is up to UAH 4,700 per hectare of damaged crops, but not more than 2,000 hectares per farm.
The program will continue to operate in 2026. You can apply through the State Agrarian Register using an electronic signature. The documents must be accompanied by confirmation of the sown area, certificates of emergency, absence of tax debts and other documents.
Deputy Minister Taras Vysotsky noted that such support allows farmers not only to compensate for losses, but also to maintain production, jobs and plan the next season even in times of war.
Earlier, Intent wrote how the severe drought in the region forced farmers to abandon sunflower. This crop, despite its general drought tolerance, requires a significant amount of moisture during the key phases of growth: basket formation and flowering. Due to the lack of moisture on the right bank, farmers are refusing to grow it.
As a reminder, in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, the condition of late crops has deteriorated due to prolonged heat and lack of rain. In some areas, crops had to be mowed or re-discovered due to wilting, disease spread and stunted growth.
