The head of the Odesa regional military administration, Oleh Kiper, has ordered the closure of the Palladium club, which has been involved in a scandal over Russian music played at a recent party.
According to the head of the administration, the club is closed for the period of the inspection of Russian-language content.
"I would like to emphasize to all catering, recreation, entertainment and trade establishments in the region that compliance with the legislation on the state language, culture, public order and martial law is mandatory," the official said.
Departments of the Regional State Administration, heads of communities and other relevant state bodies were also instructed to take measures to prevent such violations and to provide entrepreneurs with a clear explanation of the requirements of the law.
Earlier, Yaroslava Vitko-Prysyazhnyuk, a member of the Odesa Regional Council, appealed to the heads of the Odesa city and regional military administrations, Serhiy Lysak and Oleh Kiper, to introduce a moratorium on the performance of Russian music in public spaces.
The incident at the Palladium club took place over the weekend. At one of the parties, Russian music was played, and visitors complained about it, posted the recording online and called the police. The head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, reacted to the video and said that the OMA is categorically against Russian music in clubs or other public places and instructed the relevant departments of the administration to investigate the situation and provide a legal assessment of the venue's actions. The organizers must explain how this was possible in a city that is officially recognized as a war zone.
