A deputy of one of the city councils of Odesa region was detained on suspicion of extortion and receiving a bribe for leasing 92 hectares of agricultural land.

This was reported by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, a deputy of one of the city councils of Odesa region demanded an undue benefit from a man who asked her for information on the procedure for concluding a land lease agreement for agricultural activities.

The official assured the citizen that she could resolve the issue of obtaining a 95-hectare land plot for lease, in particular, ensure that the Commission on Land Relations, Construction and Administrative and Territorial Organization, of which she is the chairman, would make a positive decision.

For her services, she demanded a bribe of $9,500. She emphasized that without this amount of money, the decision in her husband's favor would not be made. After the deputy received several tranches of the bribe totaling $8,000 and reported that she had fulfilled her promise, law enforcement officers detained her in a procedural order.

If proven guilty of receiving a large-scale bribe, the MP faces imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

Earlier, the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa found an employee of the Municipal Guard municipal institution of the Fontanska village council of Odesa district guilty of two years in prison for abuse of influence.
