The police have sent to court a case about an attempt to smuggle an Odesa woman and her son, whom the woman wanted to smuggle abroad.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

Law enforcement officers found that a 33-year-old resident of Rozdilnyansky district and his accomplice, whose case is being investigated in a separate criminal proceeding, set up a scheme to smuggle men across the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.

While looking for clients in one of the popular messengers, the accused met an Odesa resident who wanted her young son to leave Ukraine. For $10,000, the dealer promised to take him to the border area and show him a walking route to Moldova outside the checkpoints.

Having met the young man and his mother in the Rozdilnyanska community, the suspect received the agreed amount of money and drove the relatives in his friend's car to one of the nearest settlements located near the border. However, the police stopped the car on the way, and the smuggler was detained in accordance with the procedural procedure.

Investigators seized the money obtained by criminal means, mobile phones and the vehicle as material evidence. They were seized. For the duration of the investigation, the court imposed on the detainee a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 242,240, which he did not use.

The man is currently accused of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine by prior conspiracy. If proven guilty, the man faces imprisonment for up to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
