Three former prosecutors from Crimea were put on trial for treason after serving the occupation authorities in Sevastopol. They worked for the Russian "justice" system for years and actually strengthened the aggressor's control over the peninsula.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation in Melitopol.

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation have completed a pre-trial investigation against three former employees of the Crimean region prosecutor's office who, after the occupation of the peninsula in 2014, voluntarily joined the illegally created law enforcement agencies of the aggressor state. The indictments have already been sent to court.

According to the investigation, after the seizure of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by Russian troops, the law enforcement officers were aware of the illegality of the occupation authorities' actions, but agreed to cooperate with representatives of the Russian Federation.

Two of them took up positions in the so-called military prosecutor's office of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. There they acted as prosecutors and participated in the sessions of the occupation military courts.

Another defendant became a "senior prosecutor" of the criminal justice unit in the illegally established Sevastopol prosecutor's office. He also repeatedly represented the prosecution in courts controlled by the occupation authorities.

For a long time, all three of them followed the instructions of the leadership of the illegal bodies and ensured the functioning of the"justice" system of the aggressor state, contributing to the strengthening of the occupation regime on the peninsula.

Their actions are qualified as high treason under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Also in March, two former SBU officers in Crimea, who joined the Russian Federal Security Service after the occupation of the peninsula, were charged with torture. According to the investigation, they illegally detained and tortured a civilian for more than six hours, forcing him to confess to involvement in a "banned" organization.
