The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office has filed a case in court against a 47-year-old resident of the region who, according to the investigation, in June 2022 voluntarily took charge of the “supervision and security department” of the occupying “Golopristansk Correctional Colony No. 7” and was awarded the rank of “major of internal service.”

Investigators believe that in August–September 2022, while holding a leadership position, the man enlisted convicts sentenced by Ukrainian courts to perform various types of labor. In particular, the convicts worked in construction, repaired buildings, cut down trees, loaded materials, and built dugouts on the colony’s grounds. The accused personally supervised the work. He isolated prisoners who refused to work in a basement, where he beat and tortured them. People could be held in inhumane conditions without food or water for three to ten days. During the day, they were allowed to remain only while standing.

The investigation also notes that in October–November 2022, the defendant participated in organizing the deportation of Ukrainian prisoners. He coordinated the transfer of prisoners, gave instructions to the guards, read out lists, and supervised the loading of people onto special transport vehicles.

The court has already sentenced a former school principal from the Kherson region who headed an illegal education department established by the occupying authorities in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region. In this capacity, he was involved in opening illegal educational institutions in the occupied territory of the Kherson region and publicized his activities in the occupation media.
