Ihor, 55, a machine gunner with the Southern Air Command's security battalion, has been defending Ukraine from the enemy for almost three years. He came to the defense of the country immediately after the start of the full-scale invasion.
This was reported by the communications department of the Southern Air Command.
On the night of February 7, 2025, in his native Mykolaiv region, the fighter shot down an enemy Shahed attack drone.
"You cannot stand aside when your land is under attack. I have two children and a grandson who is growing up, and this motivates me, I feel responsible for them. Yes, we need to protect and defend what is ours!" says Ihor.
Ukraine has returned home 25 marines who were held in Russian captivity. Among them are soldiers from Mykolaiv region.
Among the released soldiers are 18 marines from the 36th separate brigade, two soldiers from the 1st separate battalion and five from the 501st battalion. Most of them are Mariupol defenders who held the city to the last.
Recently, in the Novopavlivka sector, soldiers of the 79th separate airborne assault brigade of the Tauride Brigade of Mykolaiv completed a mission and captured seven Russian servicemen. The operation was supported by reconnaissance drones, which provided an advantage to the Ukrainian soldiers. An enemy dugout was hit by a grenade, forcing the Russian soldiers to come out and surrender.
Earlier, during one of the combat operations, two paratroopers of the 79th Separate Air Assault Tavriya Brigade captured 14 Russian soldiers. Prior to the attack, they had been working carefully on enemy positions for several days, using drones and FPV devices. For this, both soldiers were nominated for state awards.
