In Mykolaiv, a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman was taken into custody on suspicion of treason - the investigation claims that he passed information about Ukrainian positions to the enemy. According to law enforcement, he not only leaked information but also planned to defect to Russia in exchange for a monetary reward.

This is evidenced by the decision of the Central District Court of Mykolaiv.

According to the investigation, while serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he agreed to cooperate with a representative of the aggressor state and passed on information that could harm Ukraine's defense capabilities.

According to law enforcement, the communication took place via the Telegram messenger. The suspect sent information about the location of units, movement of equipment and other data that could be identified on the ground. He also provided personal data and expressed his intention to travel to Russia.

The investigation found that his relative, who had previously been convicted of crimes against national security and had traveled to Russia as part of an exchange, could have been involved in establishing contact with the Russian representative. The man was served a notice of suspicion on February 19, 2026.

During the court hearing, the suspect admitted that he had communicated with a representative of the Russian Federation and transferred information, but stated that this information was outdated. He also said that he had been promised a reward of $5,000 for his cooperation and asked for a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest.

The court refused to do so, taking into account the gravity of the crime, the risks of absconding, the possibility of influencing the investigation and continuing illegal activities. In addition, during martial law, there is no alternative measure of restraint for suspects of high treason - detention.

As a result, the court ruled to keep the suspect in custody until May 17, 2026. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Also in Mykolaiv, the debates in the case of former intelligence officer Eduard Shevchenko, accused of high treason, have ended. The prosecution claims proven guilt, while the defense insists on a lack of evidence and possible falsification of the case.
