On February 13, children fell through the ice in the Velyko Oleksandrivska community of Kherson Oblast, two were rescued, and three are still being searched for by rescuers.
According to Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, four children fell through the ice on a frozen river. A 16-year-old girl witnessed the incident. Without hesitation, she rushed to save the children, but the ice broke under her as well, and she also found herself in the icy water.
Caring people who were nearby managed to pull her and another girl out. Both victims are in serious condition due to severe hypothermia and are being provided with the necessary medical care.
Currently, rescuers and divers continue to search for three missing children - two boys and a girl. The youngest of them is only nine years old.
Rescuers once again urge citizens not to go out on the ice, as the current weather makes it extremely dangerous. Parents are asked to warn their children about the deadly threat posed by frozen water.
