Kherson is planning to increase the number of shelters and equip at least 50 new simple protective structures in 2026.

This was announced by Yaroslav Shanko, head of the Kherson MBA.

According to him, the fund of protective structures in the community currently includes 769 objects. Of these, 362 are the simplest shelters, including 138 shelters and radiation shelters. In addition, 268 mobile street shelters have already been installed in the city.

Shanko noted that work to increase the number of protective structures is ongoing, given the security situation in the region. In 2026, the city authorities intend to expand the network of shelters and equip at least another fifty new facilities.

The head of the MBA also spoke about the situation in the coastal areas of Kherson.
According to him, in some of the city's coastal areas there is no electricity and communications and shops are not open.

"The situation in the coastal areas of the city is difficult due to the increased number of shelling and drone attacks by the Russian military. People who remain living in the red zone go out to buy food and medicine at their own risk. It is now impossible to deliver humanitarian aid in the same volumes as before," said Shanko.

He added that over 200 people currently live in the Korabel neighborhood. The official also emphasized that the evacuation work is ongoing.

As Intent previously wrote, Kherson plans to spend more than UAH 15 million on major repairs to the basement of school No. 24, where the simplest shelter is to be arranged. At the same time, the tender is already accompanied by complaints and audits.

The procurement was announced in late January through the Prozorro system with an expected value of UAH 16.6 million. The customer was the Capital Construction Department of the city council.

In addition, in April, the Kherson Regional Clinical Hospital announced a procurement for the overhaul of the basement of the medical building. The cost of the work was estimated at UAH 35.5 million. The winner of the tender has until December 25, 2025 to complete the repairs. The customer is acting in accordance with the order of the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, and the project is being implemented with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The auction was held on May 2 and was attended by three companies - D.I.S. Construction Company, Khersonmarket Private Enterprise, and Dniprobursevis, which made the cheapest offer and is currently awaiting a decision on signing the agreement. By the way, the company's offer was about UAH 600 thousand less than the expected purchase amount.
