The UN General Assembly has begun discussing the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The country is represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa. The discussion will last throughout the day; more than 40 delegates have registered to speak. The format of the meeting is a debate without decision-making.

The issue of the occupied territories has been on the General Assembly's agenda annually since 2018. Previously, it was considered in February 2019-2022, in July 2023 and on February 24, 2024. The 80th session of the UN General Assembly will begin in New York on September 9. The high-level week, when heads of state and government arrive at the headquarters, will be held from September 23 to 29.

During her working visit to New York, on September 3, Mariana Betsa met with the President of the 79th session of the General Assembly, Philemon Young, and the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, Rosemary DiCarlo.

Earlier, the United Nations Security Council met on August 29 and condemned the attack on Kyiv by Russia, which the occupiers launched on August 28. On the night of August 28, Russian invaders attacked Kyiv with drones and missiles. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Russians launched almost 600 drones and 31 missiles, including ballistic missiles, at Kyiv.

As of 13:00 on August 29, 877 people were reported injured or losing property at two locations in Darnytskyi district alone, where a high-rise building was hit. There are 25 known deaths, including children, and 53 people were injured, all of whom received necessary medical care.
