The Voznesensk District Prosecutor's Office and the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office have notified the head of a pig farm of suspicion of land pollution and violation of environmental safety rules, which caused serious consequences.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation found that the suspect systematically exported liquid manure without prior treatment to an agricultural land plot. These actions created a significant danger to the environment and also caused material damage to the territorial community in the amount of almost UAH 900 thousand.

It is noted that the farmer was aware of the mandatory rules of environmental safety, but deliberately continued to illegally export waste, which led to serious consequences.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. For violation of environmental safety rules that led to serious consequences, the offender faces a fine with deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities, or imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years.

Earlier, it became known that due to a severe drought in the Mykolaiv region, farmers recorded significant losses, especially corn and sunflower crops. Local communities have already received about 700 applications from farmers.

The actual number of victims is higher, but many farmers do not record losses due to tax issues - some of them received tax credits and, accordingly, destroyed or damaged crops will lead to adjustments to their VAT returns (i.e., farmers took out loans with the expectation of selling the crop and paying the tax, but they will not be able to do so with the destroyed crop, so they have to avoid recording it).
