3.5 million trips: how transport has changed in Mykolaiv

In Mykolaiv, passenger traffic on trolleybuses is growing, and the number of non-cash payments in public transport is also increasing.

According to Mykolaivelectrotrans, since the beginning of 2026, more than 3.5 million trolleybus rides have been recorded in the city.

The dynamics of transportation shows a steady increase: while in January there were about 990 thousand trips, in March this figure rose to 1.5 million.

The company explains this, in particular, by expanding the route network. In recent years, the number of trolleybus routes in the city has increased from 6 to 12. This has made it possible to provide transportation to remote areas where there was no electric transport before.

At the same time, the number of non-cash fare payments is also growing. In the first quarter of 2026, the e-ticket system recorded more than 603 thousand payments, which is more than in the same period in 2025 (550 thousand).

In particular, in March 2026, the number of non-cash payments reached 260 thousand, which is significantly more than in March last year (207 thousand).

In January of this year, the figure was lower (157 thousand versus 177 thousand in 2025), which is attributed to power outages due to shelling of energy infrastructure.

Mykolaivelectrotrans notes that the e-ticket allows passengers to save money: one QR ticket allows an unlimited number of transfers between trolleybuses and trams within 90 minutes.

As previously reported by Intent, on March 12, starting at 9:00 a.m., tram No. 11 will be temporarily suspended in Mykolaiv in both directions. The restriction is due to the repair work to be carried out by Mykolaiv CHP.

In addition, Mykolaiv will receive 40 tramcars from the Swedish city of Gothenburg. These are M29 trams, which were previously used in the Swedish urban transportation system.

As a reminder, in December 2025, tram service was resumed in Mykolaiv on the route No. 3 ChSZ - 10th Military. Electric vehicles are running again according to their usual schedule.
