After a three-year-old girl was beaten by her grandmother at a supermarket in Voznesensk, Mykolaiv Oblast, the Child Welfare Service placed the family under social supervision. The child’s mother has already returned to Ukraine and filed a request to have her daughter returned to her care.

This was reported by Zhanna Tychynska, head of the Children’s Services Department of the Voznesensk City Council.

According to her, the woman was given counseling and informed that the child is registered as being in difficult life circumstances and as a victim of abuse. The family was also registered as being in difficult life circumstances.

The service reported that the family will receive social support. Specifically, the mother will be assisted with finding employment, and the child will be helped with enrollment in a preschool.

In addition, the Child Welfare Service is considering terminating the girl’s father’s parental rights. According to the service, the man lives separately, does not pay child support, and does not participate in his daughter’s upbringing.

Law enforcement officials have also opened a criminal investigation. The agency hopes that the woman who beat the child will be held accountable in accordance with the law.

A video has gone viral online showing a woman beating her three-year-old granddaughter and dragging her by the hair right inside a supermarket.

The police received a report from an eyewitness on July 24 at around 4:00 p.m. regarding the beating of a young child in one of the stores in Voznesensk. During their investigation, law enforcement officers determined that the incident itself occurred on the evening of July 23.

According to police, the perpetrator was a 48-year-old resident of Voznesensk who was caring for her three-year-old granddaughter while the girl’s mother was temporarily abroad.

Following the intervention of the police and child welfare services, the girl was temporarily removed from the family and placed in a family-style children’s home, where she is currently in a safe environment.

The police have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—intentionally inflicting blows that caused physical pain but did not result in bodily injury.
