The Odesa Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office and the Joint Staff responded to reports of a traffic accident near Balta, where an employee of the military registration office struck a young child and fled the scene.
The Recruitment Center stated that law enforcement agencies are currently investigating all the circumstances of the accident, which occurred on September 3 in the Podilskyi District. The Regional Recruitment Center is assisting with the necessary investigative measures within the scope of its authority.
“We are interested in a full, objective, and impartial investigation into all the circumstances of the incident,” the statement reads.
The agency added that people’s lives and health are a priority, and the actions of all parties involved in the traffic accident must be subject to a legal assessment once the circumstances have been established.
The Odesa Regional Traffic Control Center also urged the public not to spread unverified information or draw premature conclusions until the investigation is complete.
As previously reported by Intent, the traffic accident occurred in one of the villages of the Balt Community in Odesa Oblast.
According to police, an employee of the district Traffic Control Center and the Special Forces, who was conducting a mobilization alert, struck a 2.5-year-old boy. At that moment, the child had wandered away from his father, with whom he had been on the road. After the accident, the driver left the scene.
As a result of the collision, the child sustained bodily injuries. The boy was hospitalized; his condition is unknown.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
