The SBU and the National Police exposed a Russian agent who was preparing a terrorist attack in southern Ukraine on behalf of the enemy.
According to the SBU, the saboteur was a 20-year-old drug addict from Odesa region who was recruited by the FSB through a Telegram channel looking for "easy" money.
According to the investigation, the guy was supposed to assemble the explosive from purchased components and disguise it as a fire extinguisher. After that, he was supposed to leave the device in a designated place, and the Russian handlers planned to activate it remotely by calling a phone connected to the explosive.
Before the terrorist attack, the agent received a "test" task - to set fire to equipment on a strategic railroad section in the region. SBU officers exposed the offender in advance and detained him while he was trying to get rid of the evidence.
During the search, the SBU found chemical components, a phone and a fire extinguisher that was intended to be an explosive device. The suspect was taken into custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Recently, the SBU military counterintelligence detained a man in Odesa suspected of spying on ships in the Black Sea.
Before that, the special services detained a 32-year-old Odesa resident who was remotely recruited by a Russian special operations officer late last year. The SBU insists that on his instructions, the traitor set fire to a relay cabinet of a signal installation and a transformer substation on a local railway line.
In addition, a group of saboteurs who tried to disrupt the work of the Odesa Railroad for money were put on trial. They received their tasks from the Russian special services.
