Thanks to the SBU evidence base, a Russian agent who was preparing a double explosion in one of Mykolaiv's residential areas was sentenced to six years in prison.

This was reported by the SBU Office in Mykolaiv region.

The offender, recruited through a Telegram channel looking for 'easy money', was detained 'hot on the trail' in May this year.

The convict is a 27-year-old resident of Odesa. According to the investigation, he was instructed by the occupiers to install a flammable mixture disguised as a jar of water on the hood of a car parked in the yard and activate it remotely.

The plan was that after law enforcement, medics and rescuers arrived at the scene, the occupiers planned to activate a second explosive disguised nearby. It was an improvised explosive device that the agent hid in a flower bed a few meters from the mined car.

Using this explosive trap, the enemy hoped to kill and seriously injure as many people as possible, provoking panic in the regional center. The SBU was proactive and prevented the terrorist attack. The SBU officers exposed the agent in advance, documented his crimes step by step and detained him red-handed just as he was setting fire to the car during the curfew.

In court, the agent was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 15, Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempted terrorist act). As it became known, the accomplice did not receive the reward promised by the occupiers to his own crypto wallet, as the Russians once again 'abandoned' their agent.
