Police have launched an investigation into the alleged abuse of a horse by a resident of Odesa district.
According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, a few days ago, citizens provided law enforcement with information about an animal that was allegedly improperly kept in a private household in the village of Usatove.
Animal rights activists reported on social media that the horse had collapsed from hunger, and the owners left it to its fate, which led to the animal freezing in a puddle, and after the information was spread, the horse was slaughtered. Animal rights activists also accused the police of inaction.
The horse's owner said that the animal had been injured by shelling a year ago and also had a heart defect. The woman emphasized that she had seen a doctor, who advised her to wait until the morning and to inform him if the animal could not get up. In the morning, the horse could not get up, so the doctor gave the owners of the animal the phone number of the butcher, who slaughtered the animal.

If the owners are found guilty of cruelty to animals, they face restriction of liberty for a term of one to three years or imprisonment for a term of two to three years with confiscation of the animal.
In late January, police drew up reports of administrative offenses against two teenagers from Odesa who posted a video of one of them raping a friend's cat on the Internet.
The video caused a stir among animal rights activists, given that the cat has now died. In particular, the organization UAnimals appealed to the police with a demand to launch a criminal investigation. So, the police tracked down the teenage authors of the video and found out that the incident took place early last year at the home of a younger boy. According to him, he was filming the process of imitating the rape of his cat by his friend for entertainment purposes. The second teenager also explained that it was staged for entertainment.
