Odesa region in southern Ukraine ranks first in terms of the number of bankrupt people and fifth in the country.

According to Opendatabot analysts, there are 47 such people in the region.

For comparison, there are no bankrupts registered in Kherson region, and 12 in Mykolaiv region. Meanwhile, Kyiv ranks first. There are 95 bankruptcy cases being considered by the courts there. Kyiv region is in second place with 58 bankrupts, Dnipropetrovs'k region is third with 53 bankrupts, and Lviv region is in fourth place with 52.

In general, according to analysts, this year courts have started considering 651 cases of bankruptcy. The number of cases has almost doubled in the last 4 months of this year. Most often, people aged 25 to 45 are asked to declare themselves insolvent - 64.1% of bankrupts. Another 28.7% are over 45 years old. 51% of bankrupts are women, and another 48% are men.

However, insolvency officer Denys Lykhopiok believes that the current dynamics are likely to be "pent-up demand" rather than rapid growth caused by any one factor.

Odesa region is also among the top three regions where companies with foreign investment are most likely to open. The Top 10 also includes citizens of the United States, Kazakhstan, Germany, Azerbaijan, Israel, the United Kingdom, and China. Opendatabot noted that one company may have more than one owner.

The largest number of companies with foreign owners is engaged in wholesale trade - 30.7%, real estate transactions - 6.7% and computer programming - 5.8%.

Earlier it was reported that in 2023, almost 305 thousand new sole proprietorships were opened in Ukraine. This is more than 105 thousand more than in 2022 (the first year of Russia's open armed aggression against Ukraine) and almost 20 thousand more than in the pre-war year of 2021. The most popular areas for new companies were wholesale trade, NGOs, and social assistance.
