An Odesa court has delivered a verdict in the case of a serviceman who illegally purchased, stored and sold an RGD-5 combat grenade.

This is reported in the Unified Register of Court Decisions.

According to the investigation, the accused, a native of Odesa region, a soldier of a military unit who served during mobilization, found an explosive device at an unspecified time and under unknown circumstances. Without obtaining legal permission, he kept the grenade in his apartment and later sold it to another person for UAH 2000.

Law enforcement officers quickly exposed the criminal. At the court hearing, the man pleaded guilty, sincerely repented and expressed his intention to return to military service.

The court took into account the fact that the accused has a seriously ill stepfather, a positive characterization, and the absence of aggravating circumstances. As a result, the military man was sentenced to imprisonment, but his sentence was commuted to probation. He also has to pay procedural costs in the amount of over UAH 1500.

Earlier, an Odesa court found the serviceman guilty of falsely reporting a bomb threat to the court and sentenced him to 5 years and a month in prison.

The Ovidiopol District Court of Odesa region also sentenced a soldier who illegally stored ammunition and explosives. The commander of the engineering and sapper unit of the first rifle battalion of the military unit illegally purchased and stored grenades, ammunition of various calibers, electric detonators and explosive devices. On February 7, 2024, he was stopped by law enforcement officers while driving a Lexus RX 330. While talking to the police, he threw an RGD-5 grenade under the car, which fortunately did not explode.

The Mykolaiv serviceman was also sentenced for illegal possession of a combat grenade. The court took into account his service and changed the sentence.
