The Malynovskyi District Court of Odesa found the serviceman guilty of falsely reporting the bomb threat to the court and sentenced him to 5 years and a month in prison.

According to the case file, on October 2, 2024, a sniper shooter called the 102 line at about two in the morning and reported that the premises of the Malynovskyi District Court of Odesa were mined, the Judicial and Legal Newspaper reported.

At the trial, the accused pleaded guilty and expressed sincere remorse for his actions. The man explained that he was intoxicated when he decided to call the police. He did not choose the name of a specific court and reported the mining of the court whose name he knew. He had no real reason to report the impending explosion of the building. At the time of the crime, the serviceman had come home on vacation.

The verdict states that the defendant has been repeatedly prosecuted for theft. The last time, in 2023, he was sentenced to a suspended sentence for stealing money and documents from his girlfriend. He committed the new crime during the probationary period of his previous sentence, and this led to a real prison term.

The court also ordered to recover UAH 4,775 in procedural costs from the accused and to confiscate the cell phone from which the soldier reported the pseudo-mining.

Earlier, the court found a resident of Odesa guilty of setting fire to a church building in February 2024 and sentenced him to three years in prison. During the pre-trial investigation, which was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Prymorskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa, investigators found that in the evening the attacker entered the church through the fence, placed a cloth soaked in flammable liquid under the refectory, set it on fire with a lighter and fled.
