The Ovidiopol District Court of Odesa Region has sentenced a military man who illegally stored ammunition and explosives.

This is reported on the website of the Unified Register of Court Decisions.

According to the case file, the commander of the engineering and sapper unit of the first rifle battalion of the military unit illegally purchased and stored grenades, ammunition of various calibers, electric detonators and explosive devices. On February 7, 2024, he was stopped by law enforcement officers while driving a Lexus RX 330. While talking to the police, he threw an RGD-5 grenade under the car, which fortunately did not explode.

During the search of the suspect's residence, a significant arsenal of ammunition was seized. Among the seized items were 150 rounds of 5.45 mm ammunition, a case of an RGN hand fragmentation grenade, a fuse, an electric detonator, two MUV-2 and two MUV-3 fuses, which are structurally compatible with the MD-5M fuses that he also had on him. In addition, another 32 rounds of 5.45 mm and 78 rounds of 7.62 mm were found. Four 40-mm rounds for VOG-25-PM grenade launchers, 40 KD-8A caps and five and a half meters of OshP type flame-retardant wire were also found.

At the court hearing, the accused fully admitted his guilt, explaining that he had kept the ammunition after demining, but had forgotten about the grenade in the car.

Given his sincere remorse, positive characteristics, lack of aggravating circumstances and military status, the court sentenced him to imprisonment, but released him from serving it with a probationary period. In addition, the defendant was ordered to pay over UAH 17 thousand in procedural costs.

Earlier, an Odesa court found a serviceman guilty of falsely reporting a bomb threat to the court and sentenced him to 5 years and a month in prison.

The court also found a resident of Odesa guilty of setting fire to a church building.
