Mykolaiv plans to launch a centralized drinking water supply by August 2025.
According to MikVisti, this was stated during a discussion panel by Serhiy Sukhomlyn, head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Recovery and Development.
According to him, under normal circumstances, the construction of a new water supply system would take a year and a half, but due to the accelerated pace of work, the city is expected to receive water in August.
In addition, the cost of construction was reduced from UAH 8 billion to UAH 5 billion, although the project itself was significantly improved. In particular, a new modern water intake station was added, as well as partial converters that were not previously envisioned.
Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych noted that together with the Restoration Agency, they are considering a temporary solution that will allow them to supply drinking water to the city before the water supply system is completed. For this purpose, they plan to use sewage treatment plants.
Officials emphasized that the main goal is to provide the city with quality drinking water, not just lay a new pipe.
Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Water Authority, said that the construction of the water pipeline from Nova Odesa to Mykolaiv would be completed by the fall of 2025. UAH 8 billion has already been allocated for this project.
As Intent previously wrote, in the spring of 2024, Borys Dudenko, director of Mykolaivvodokanal, assured that water supply problems were being addressed at the state level. In 2023, about UAH 1.2 billion was allocated from the state budget to restore the city's water supply systems. The Dream recovery platform has dozens of projects dedicated to the city's water supply. The water pipeline from Nova Odesa worth almost UAH 7.5 billion is planned to be completed by the end of 2024, and a possible extension of the deadline to 2025 is currently being predicted.
