Mykolaiv plans to install solar power plants to ensure uninterrupted operation of the water supply system. The project also includes backup power and the sale of excess electricity, which will reduce costs.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the Dream ecosystem.

Mykolaiv has planned to overhaul the electrical system of the water treatment plant and pumping stations. The project involves the use of renewable energy sources, including solar, to ensure the uninterrupted operation of critical water supply and wastewater infrastructure.

In particular, it is planned to install solar power plants (SPP) at several key water supply facilities. These power plants will significantly reduce electricity consumption from the grid, which is another step towards the city's energy independence during blackouts.

In addition, a backup power supply from diesel generators is envisaged, which will guarantee uninterrupted water supply even in critical situations.

The total project budget is UAH 68.6 million, and the estimated duration of the project is 13 months.

The project also provides for the possibility of selling surplus electricity to other consumers, which will not only reduce energy costs but also generate additional financial revenues.

The project was initiated by the Mykolaiv City Council and implemented by the Mykolaivvodokanal utility. According to the project description, through the introduction of renewable energy sources, the city will be able to reduce energy costs, increase the sustainability of water supply and sewage, and provide residents with water even in times of energy crises.

A new heating network will also be built in Mykolaiv, for which more than three million hryvnias have already been allocated out of a total need of four hundred million. The project to build an underground main heating main on Pogranichna Street between Korabeliv and Marshal Vasilevsky Streets involves replacing outdated elements and eliminating heating network failures.

And in the village of Novopetrivka, Bashtanka district, Mykolaiv region, it is planned to implement a project to reconstruct the water supply damaged during the occupation and shelling in 2022, for which Germany has allocated three million hryvnias. The total amount for this project is over one hundred million hryvnias.

In addition, to increase the energy security of the Ochakiv community, local authorities announced the installation of four cogeneration units, for which they are to spend almost 5 million euros. The cogeneration units will be located in the settlements of Kutsurub, Ochakiv, and Chornomorsk.
