The skatepark in Mykolaiv, located on Kherson Highway, has not undergone any major repairs since its opening in 2020. As a result, its structures have significantly worn out, and some elements have become dangerous for visitors.
This was reported by MikVisti.
The site was created thanks to the project's victory in a public budget competition, for which almost a million hryvnias were allocated. The skatepark is designed for biking, skateboarding, and rollerblading and also includes several slides for performing tricks. One of the project's initiators, Yevhen Korolkov, notes that after its opening, the park became popular among local extreme sports fans.
"We built it together with Denys Sysin when we were advocating for the preservation of the green zone from development. At the same time, we won the project and quickly implemented it. The skatepark was built with the participation of a specialized company from Kyiv, and we even had people from Kherson visit us," said Yevhen Korolkov.
He also noted that the skatepark was part of a larger urban park concept that was planned to be implemented in this area. However, due to the war, the development of the project was suspended.
Since then, no major repairs have been carried out. Yevhen Korolkov explained that the municipal services took over only the land under the skatepark, and the structures themselves were left unmaintained due to a lack of budget. The park's structures require special maintenance, as they cannot be simply replaced with ordinary materials.
Korolkow also noted that for temporary repairs, it would be enough to cover the holes with moisture-resistant plywood, which can be purchased in Poland and Lithuania.
In 2024, the site was transferred to the balance sheet of the municipal enterprise SEZ Pilot. Currently, the city authorities are considering the possibility of carrying out repairs, but the exact amount needed for this has not yet been determined.
According to Igor Golovaty, director of the Pilot enterprise, the repairs are planned, and they are currently working on finding funding to purchase materials and carry out the work. When the funding issue is resolved, the repair work will begin.
In January, Mykolaiv architecture students implemented nine innovative eco-projects. This gave the young people valuable experience and provided the city with modern environmental solutions. Students of Mykolaiv College of Civil Engineering created modern public gardens and ecological areas.
As part of the initiative, mobile bicycle service stations have also appeared in the city. In addition, the city council plans to create new bicycle routes that will increase the safety and comfort of transportation.
They also renovated the public garden at the intersection of Kolodyazna and 3 Slobidska streets thanks to an international grant. As part of the project, they leveled the surface, added soil, trimmed plants, planted 100 lavender bushes and 25 millet bushes, and replaced old benches and trash cans with new ones.
