The Swiss government will provide a new tranche of aid to Mykolaiv in the amount of CHF 1.7 million (approximately UAH 95 million). These funds are intended to support the city's critical infrastructure, including the stable operation of water supply and sewage systems.

This became known from the official website of Mykolaiv City Council.

The relevant Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Mykolaiv City Council, Mykolaivvodokanal, and the Swiss company Elektrobedarf Troller. The main goal of the project is to install photovoltaic systems with battery energy storage at 11 water treatment facilities in the city.

The solar panels and storage devices will allow Mykolaivvodokanal to operate autonomously and stably even in the face of frequent power outages or enemy shelling of the power grid. The project is expected to provide more than 426,000 residents of Mykolaiv (about 85% of the city's population) with more reliable water supply services. The project is designed for the long term - its implementation will last until March 2027.

This initiative is part of a larger strategy: in 2025-2028, Switzerland has allocated 500 million francs to support Ukraine's recovery in partnership with the private sector.

Recently, it became known that the water supply situation in Mykolaiv will remain critical in the coming week. Despite widespread complaints from residents about the color and odor of tap water, the Mykolaiv Vodokanal management warns that the quality of the water supply will not improve and may even get worse.

Due to the active snowmelt and rising temperatures in Mykolaiv, there has been a significant decline in the quality of tap water. As explained by Gennadiy Izyumov, head of Mykolaivvodokanal Gennadiy Izyumov, the situation is caused by a significant discharge of water from the Oleksandrivske reservoir into the Southern Bug River. This resulted in water with critical indicators entering the treatment plant : the inlet color reaches 76 degrees, while the norm is 20, and the turbidity exceeds the permissible limits by almost thirty times.
