Mykolaiv official embezzled a million allocated for defense

The State Bureau of Investigation has completed a pre-trial investigation into the head of Mykolaiv's housing and maintenance department. The official is accused of embezzling 1.4 million public funds intended for the country's defense.

To meet the needs of the Armed Forces, the official was supposed to purchase fuel wood as part of a mobilization task. Instead of direct cooperation with forestry enterprises, he organized the scheme through a front company. The wood was bought from the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" at the market price and then resold to the state administration at twice the price. Thanks to this fraud, the manager misappropriated funds.

The indictment has already been sent to court under the supervision of the Mykolaiv Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office. To guarantee compensation for damages, the former official's property was seized.

The defendant has already been dismissed from his position. He is charged with embezzlement of property on a particularly large scale committed by a group of persons under martial law. Under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the man faces up to 12 years in prison.

Earlier, the manager was dismissed from his position and was served a notice of suspicion of embezzlement of property by abuse of office, committed by a group of persons under martial law, on a large scale (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Procedural supervision is provided by the Mykolaiv Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

The State Bureau of Investigation and the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption found unjustified assets worth almost UAH 3 million in the family of the head of a department of the Strategic Investigations Department in Odesa region of the National Police of Ukraine.

These are Lexus ES 250, 2016, Mercedez-Benz GLK 220 CDI, 2011, Mercedez-Benz GLE 350D, 2017, which were purchased by the official's mother, father and mother-in-law in 2000-2021. However, the movable property was actually used by the police officer and his wife.
