A tram substation, an architectural monument of local significance, will be bought in Mykolaiv. It is a historic building that is part of the city's heritage and a symbol of the development of electric transport in the city in the early 20th century.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council.

The facility is currently owned by Aval Bank. According to Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych, the facility is in need of repair. Deputy Oleksandr Bereza emphasized that this is a valuable historical site and that the next decision should be to allocate funds for protection, etc. The deputies should ensure its historical appearance and attract investors who will preserve the monument and give it a new meaning.

Deputy Volodymyr Topchyi also emphasized that this building is very important for the city. If the city does not spend money on its heritage, then why should it spend money on museums, the zoo and other institutions? Mr . Panchenko noted that if the offer is made to buy this object at a liquid price, then it should be purchased at that price. He noted that the land on which the monument stands is worth more. And Mykola Kapatsyna is ready to provide one million hryvnias for the restoration and preservation of this building. Other deputies also supported the preservation of cultural heritage and voted in favor.

The purchase of this building is an important step towards preserving the city's historical heritage. The city authorities plan to restore the tram substation and use it for the social and cultural needs of the community. One of the possible options is to create a public or cultural space in the building, which will preserve the historical monument and ensure its further use in modern conditions.

In February of this year, the building was put up for sale, but now, thanks to the decision of the city council, the property will be purchased, which will preserve it for future generations and integrate it into the cultural heritage of Mykolaiv.

Earlier, the Mykolaiv City Council stated that the city did not have sufficient financial resources to purchase the historic building on Soborna Street. The head of the culture department, Yuriy Lyubarov, explained that spending budget funds on real estate in times of war is inappropriate from both an economic and moral point of view.
