Mykolaiv CHP Shelling Causes Over ₴536M Damage and Cuts Heat for

Environmentalists have assessed the damage to Mykolaiv caused by the hostilities. As a result of the shelling, a large area of land was contaminated on the territory of Mykolaiv CHP, and the damage amounted to more than UAH 536 million.

This was reported by the press service of the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.

The State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District assessed the damage caused by land contamination as a result of hostilities.

On February 16, 2025, 15,500 square meters of land on the territory of PJSC Mykolaivska TPP was contaminated by enemy ammunition. The amount of waste generated was 120 square meters.

The total amount of damage caused amounted to UAH 536 million.

On the night of February 16, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Mykolaiv, which damaged the Mykolaiv CHP plant and caused a fire. Many residents were left without heating. As a result of the shelling, the power generation at the CHPP was completely destroyed, but utilities quickly restored heat supply.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that more than one hundred thousand people in Mykolaiv were left without heat due to the attack by the Shahed on the city's critical infrastructure. And Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych confirmed that the shelling of the Mykolaiv CHP plant was deliberate to deprive the city of heat during the cold weather.

Mykolaiv has also been cleaning up the Southern Bug River after an oil spill caused by an enemy drone attack. The specialists used a sorbent to speed up the process of removing the contamination. The vegetable oil tank on the territory of the agricultural enterprise was damaged by the fall of Russian drone debris on the night of December 28, 2024. According to preliminary estimates by the Ministry of Environment, the environmental damage amounts to UAH 45 billion.
