Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych has signed a cooperation agreement with the USAID Democratic Governance in Eastern Ukraine Project to provide technical assistance to restore the city's economy.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.

According to Oleksandr Senkevych, he had the opportunity to talk to Julie Cohen, USAID Mission Director. Mykolaiv had been cooperating with USAID even before the full-scale invasion. One example of cooperation is providing the Center for Administrative Services with the necessary equipment to improve the quality of administrative services to citizens.

"During the war, our partnership has become stronger and covers not only emergency response projects, but also recovery and development projects," the mayor said.

The memorandum provides for the provision of technical assistance to support the city's economic recovery through projects supported by USAID.

Particular attention was paid to supporting local entrepreneurs affected by the war, as well as those who want to start a new business. They will receive mentoring support, grants, and valuable skills to develop their ideas.

The project also includes the creation of a special space for entrepreneurial activity where participants will be able to share experiences and work on their business plans. The international support is expected to help restore and strengthen the business environment in Mykolaiv.

Last December, entrepreneurs from southern Ukraine took part in a business idea competition that selected 14 new entrepreneurs from Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. The program brought together both experienced businessmen and those just starting out in business. The main prize of the competition is a grant of UAH 180 thousand to implement the best ideas.

In Mykolaiv, veterans also received grants for business development worth over UAH 67 million. Made in Ukraine offices are already operating in Mykolaiv and Pervomaisk, and by the end of the year they will open in Bashtanka and Voznesensk districts.

In addition, the deputies of the Mykolaiv Regional Council adopted a program of economic and social development for 2025, under which 150 investment projects are planned to be implemented. The main objectives of the program are to attract foreign, private, and public investment, technological modernization of the industrial complex, creation of industrial parks, and development of renewable energy.
