Police have detained a driver who caused a fatal road accident while intoxicated in Bilyayivka, Odesa district.
According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, a 44-year-old driver of a Skoda lost control and ran over a 67-year-old woman walking on the roadside, hitting a roadside fence, causing the vehicle to overturn.
The victim died, and a test of the driver's state of intoxication showed that he was drunk. The Dumskaya media outlet, citing its own sources, reported that the driver was a senior officer of the operational and tactical group "Odesa".
Investigators registered the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It is a violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by a person driving a vehicle in a state of intoxication, which caused the death of the victim.
If found guilty, the driver faces imprisonment for up to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for the same period.
The police detained the driver and are currently deciding whether to serve him with a notice of suspicion and choose a measure of restraint.
Earlier, two servicemen, aged 34 and 36, were killed in a road accident that occurred in the morning of October 17. A 63-year-old truck driver failed to notice a mobile checkpoint and ran over the two soldiers. One victim died on the spot, the other in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
On October 4, Petro Tverdovsky, a student of the Odesa National Law Academy, was killed in a car accident in Odesa. According to unofficial reports, the young man was the son of the owner of the Ithaca and Paladium clubs.
In September, the daughter of the former mayor of Kiliya, Pavlo Boichenko, Kateryna, died in an accident in Izmail, Odesa region. The tragedy occurred on September 5, when Kateryna Boychenko was hit by a 19-year-old BMW driver while she was crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing.
