A Russian military intelligence agent was detained in the Odesa region. The "mole" turned out to be an officer of the Ukrainian National Guard.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
Investigators believe that the commander of a National Guard special operations unit was passing on classified information to the enemy regarding his unit’s combat operations on the front lines and behind enemy lines. He also provided the Russians with classified information from the National Guard’s restricted information system. To do so, he disclosed his login credentials for his personal account on the agency’s internal internet platform to Russian intelligence officers.
These actions could have granted the Russians remote access to classified information regarding the planning, preparation, and execution of combat operations, as well as the algorithms used to manage the special unit’s personnel. One of the “mole’s” activities was uncovered and documented at the outset. The traitor was detained at his residence in Odesa. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
During the investigation, law enforcement officials established that, acting on orders from the Russian Federation, the detainee set fire to a military vehicle in the port city and recorded the blaze on his cell phone camera. He was subsequently supposed to manufacture a homemade explosive device and hand it over to a “courier” to carry out a terrorist attack in southern Ukraine.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a resident of the Bilozerka community in the Kherson region who, according to the investigation, passed information about the Defense Forces to Russian special services and helped prepare strikes against the frontline region.
