The Security Service of Ukraine has detained an informant for Russian intelligence agencies who was coordinating the occupiers’ airstrikes in the Mykolaiv region.
This was reportedby the Mykolaiv Regional Office of the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the suspect is a 37-year-old local resident. According to the SBU, he came to the attention of Russian intelligence agencies due to his own posts on Telegram, in which he expressed support for the Kremlin regime and Russian armed forces.
The agent’s main task was to gather information on the firing positions of Ukrainian air defense systems, as well as the locations of logistics depots belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the south of the country.
To do this, the man traveled around the area under the guise of supposedly running personal errands. He transmitted the collected data to his handler in Russia via a messaging app in the form of text messages containing the coordinates of potential targets.
In turn, law enforcement agencies carried out a series of measures to secure the positions of the Ukrainian military.
The suspect was notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The indictment has already been submitted to the court.
If found guilty, the man faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Previously, residents of Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv region were exposed for maintaining contact with unidentified representatives of Russian intelligence services through covert communication channels, including theTelegram messaging app, to pass on intelligence regarding the activities of defense industry enterprises, critical infrastructure facilities, government agencies, military units, and other sites of significant defense importance.
