A technical launch of 5G took place in Odesa. The city joined the testing phase after Lviv, Borodianka, Kharkiv, and Kyiv.

This was announced by Oleg Kiper, head of the Odessa Regional State Administration.

To conduct the testing nationwide, more than 300 base stations have been installed and launched in a special mode. According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, about 29% of all active smartphones in Ukraine already support 5G technology, so one-third of users in coverage areas connect to the test network automatically.

5G is the fifth generation of mobile communications, providing data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s and a minimum signal latency of 1 millisecond. The technology is capable of simultaneously serving up to one million devices per square kilometer without compromising connection quality. Unlike 4G, this network is geared not only toward smartphone traffic but also toward the widespread deployment of the Internet of Things, autonomous vehicles, and “smart” urban infrastructure.

Previously, the“Army FM” military radio network expanded to cover a number of settlements. In the south, new frequencies became available in Odesa, Voznesensk, and Pivdennoukrainsk.

Previously, the licenses of the Odesa-based television channels “Glas” and “Plus” were revoked at the request of the media owners. Both companies attributed the decision to the difficult economic situation, power outages, and technical challenges.
