Two sailors from Azerbaijan were killed in an attack on a ship near Odesa

In the Black Sea, Russian drones attacked the foreign cargo ship TEDY, which had Azerbaijani citizens on board. Two sailors were killed, and two others were injured.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the attack took place on September 9.

Two Azerbaijani sailors—Aslan Aliyev and Asim Gasimov—were killed in the drone strike.

Two other Azerbaijani citizens—Imran Novruzov and Rauf Aliyev—were injured. They were hospitalized in Chornomorsk, Odesa Oblast.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry did not specify exactly where in the Black Sea the vessel was struck.

According to Media.AZ, the TEDY was attacked on September 9 and again on the night of September 10. There were a total of 10 crew members on board.

Meanwhile, on the evening of September 9, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Russian forces had attacked a tugboat that was allegedly escorting ships to the port of Odesa.

Since July, the Russians have been continuously attacking civilian vessels in the Black Sea.

For example, the enemy struck a merchant dry cargo ship flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau, which was loaded with Ukrainian wheat. As a result of the attack, one Ukrainian sailor was killed and three others were injured.

Russian forces also struck a civilian vessel flying the Liberian flag near the port of Odesa. This wasthethirdattackon this dry cargo ship.

Another ship carrying a cargo of corn was struck by three Russian X-59/X-69 missiles as it was leaving the port of Odesa. Due to the damage sustained, it lost seaworthiness and sank approximately five nautical miles offthe coast. Ten people were killed in that attack, including a Ukrainian pilot.

After the foreign bulk carrier “GOLDEN LEO” sank, the environmental inspection agency surveyed the area—no signsofmarinepollutionfrom petroleum products have been detected so far.
