Occupiers struck a ship near Odesa; one sailor was killed

On the evening of August 5, Russian occupiers struck a civilian vessel near Odesa. A fire broke out on board; one crew member—a Ukrainian citizen—was killed, and three others were injured.

According to Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, the enemy continues to attack civilian vessels in the Black Sea without pause. This time, the target was a merchant dry cargo ship flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau and loaded with Ukrainian wheat. 

“One person was killed, and three others were injured,” the post states.

The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority clarified that the civilian vessel MERA QUEEN, flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau, was struck. A crew member—a Ukrainian citizen—was killed as a result of the Russian attack. The remaining sailors were brought ashore.

As of 6:00 a.m. on August 6, the vessel was moored at the pier. Experts are currently conducting initial work to contain the damage and stabilize the vessel’s technical condition.
