In Odesa, traffic is blocked on more than 10 streets due to bad weather

The Odesa City Council has reported that traffic is blocked due to flooding on at least 17 streets and 11 other sections of the city.

This was reported by the press service of the mayor's office.

Currently, 45 units of equipment are working on the streets of the city and 323 utility workers are fighting the disaster without rest. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service are actively helping to pull out cars and support people: 18 vehicles and 64 rescuers.

Meanwhile, power supply has been restored to 12 settlements in Odesa Oblast that were cut off due to rain and wind.

The mayor's office also reported that almost a month's worth of precipitation was recorded in Odesa in half a day. According to the Black and Azov Sea Hydrometeorological Center, the northeast wind at a speed of 15-17 meters per second will continue until the end of the day, and the rain will reach the criterion of "heavy" (50-79 millimeters).

As of 12:00, 41.5 mm of precipitation fell in Odesa, which is almost equal to the average monthly rate. According to Leonid Grebenyuk, director of the Department of Municipal Economy, utilities began preparing the drainage system the night before.

On October 1, weather forecasters predicted cloudy weather, moderate rain at night, no significant precipitation during the day.

Heavy rain and winds that raged in Odesa region at night and in the morning of September 30 led to the loss of power in more than 30 settlements.

However, as of 9:00 a.m. on September 30, 12,901 customers in 16 villages and towns are temporarily without power. Meanwhile, in Odesa, the bad weather has adjusted some public transportation routes. Trolleybus route 10 is now running to Rishelievskaya Street. Trolleybus route No. 8 temporarily runs to Khimichna Street, tram route No. 20 has temporarily stopped working and a taxi is running instead. Tram routes 7, 13, 27 were left without electricity and also stopped.
