The Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa has begun consideration of the case of Mykola Mayorenko, who is accused of the attempted murder of two public figures - businessman Gennadiy Beibutyan and Demyan Hanul.

Mykola Mayorenko is accused of attempted premeditated murder committed to order, as well as illegal handling of ammunition, Suspilne media outlet reminded.

The defendant's lawyers did not appear at the hearing, and Mykola Mayorenko asked that the case be postponed to another day, but the judges decided to try to connect the lawyer remotely. At first, this did not work, so the prosecutor offered Mayorenko a free lawyer. The defendant did not agree, and eventually lawyer Vadym Kolokolnikov joined the hearing.

The prosecutor requested the extension of the preventive measure: detention without bail.

The victim Gennadiy Beibutyan and the prosecutor in the case requested that the hearing be held in a closed session. One of the victims in the case was public figure Demyan Hanul, who was killed on March 14 this year. Now his wife, Zhanna Voznyuk, is among the victims. The woman's lawyers agreed with the prosecutor on the restraint measure, but objected to the trial in camera. The defendant's lawyer asked for house arrest because he did not understand the risks.

The judges left Mykola Mayorenko in jail until July 25 without bail.

In October 2024, the police and the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a contract killing of the head of a public organization in Odesa region by faking his death. Law enforcement officers staged the murder of a 56-year-old resident of Odesa, a businessman, the head of a public organization, took photos and videos as evidence of the order and gave them to the perpetrator of the crime to hand over to the client. When the report was received, the latter was detained. The organizer was to be paid $80,000 for the murder, of which he promised $70,000 to the executor.

Before that, social networks and the media reported that Gennadiy Beibutian, who headed the "Law Enforcement Assistance Unit", was killed in Odesa region. This group helped the CCC and JV with mobilization.

The SBU, in turn, noted that this order was a special operation of the Russian secret service, which wanted to carry out a demonstrative liquidation of an activist who publicly supported mobilization.
