An investigation has been completed in Odesa against an employee of a vocational college who is suspected of taking a bribe to help a student with academic debt. According to the investigation, the woman demanded 15 thousand hryvnias for admission to the session and avoiding expulsion.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Odesa region.
Law enforcement officers submitted to the court an indictment against the head of one of the departments of a vocational college in Odesa. She is accused of extortion and bribery for so-called student debt assistance.
According to the police, the educator offered the student's representative UAH 15,000 to help her close her academic debt, get admission to the next session, and avoid expulsion from the institution.
Law enforcement was informed about the possible bribe. The woman was detained immediately after the money transfer, and the seized funds were attached to the case file as material evidence.
During the pre-trial investigation, the court imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in excess of UAH 66,000. In addition, she was temporarily suspended from office.
The woman is currently charged with taking a bribe from an official. If proven guilty in court, she faces up to four years in prison and a ban on holding certain positions.
Also in May, one of the course officers of the Odesa Maritime Academy organized a scheme to receive money from students for assistance in passing exams and tests. Investigators found that the fourth-year curator demanded USD 1600 from the student for passing six subjects.
In case of refusal to pay, according to law enforcement, he threatened to fail the exams and expel him. The suspect was detained while receiving the full amount of the bribe in a car near the educational institution.
