The former head of the special unit of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, known for his participation in the dispersal of the Maidan protests, Serhiy Solomko, was detained in Russian-occupied Crimea.

According to Qirim media, Solomko was arrested in October 2024 at the initiative of the FSB under Article 275.1 of the Russian Criminal Code, which concerns confidential work with foreigners. In May 2025, the case was transferred to the so-called Supreme Court of Crimea.

"At the beginning of the hearings, the 'judge' decided to return the materials to the 'prosecutor or investigator', indicating a possible qualification for a more serious charge - probably treason," the media quoted RosZmі as saying.

During the events of Euromaidan, Solomko was in charge of a battalion of the 47th Tiger Special Forces Regiment stationed in Crimea. In December 2013, he was sent to Kyiv to suppress the protests, where he was injured. At the end of February 2014, the unit returned to Crimea, and later, after the annexation, some of the military, including Solomko, took an oath of allegiance to Russia. He later became the commander of a battalion of the internal troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. In March 2015, he received the award "For Excellence in Service" of the first degree. No later than July 2015, Solomko joined the navy and commanded a division of boats in the North Balkan separate training marine detachment in Buryatia. Solomko then served for some time in the Murmansk military unit #3798. In 2018, the court fined him 10 thousand rubles for improper disposal of mercury-containing lamps and tires in the military unit.

At the time of the opening of the criminal case, Solomko was no longer in military service, although the exact date of his discharge is unknown. In recent years, he lived in Simferopol as a civilian, was married and had three children, as stated in the court ruling on his appeal against the arrest.
