Two earthquakes were recorded near occupied Crimea over the past 24 hours. Both epicenters were located in the Black Sea near the peninsula’s southern coast.

This was reported by the Main Center for Special Control.

The first earthquake occurred on August 25 at 8:45 p.m. Its magnitude was 3.4 on the Richter scale.

The epicenter was located near Sevastopol, at a depth of 15 kilometers. The earthquake was classified as barely perceptible.

The second earthquake was recorded on August 26 at 2:19 p.m. Its magnitude was also 3.4.

This time, the epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers off the southern coast of the Crimean Peninsula, near Sevastopol. It was also classified as barely perceptible.

The Main Center for Special Monitoring urged people who felt the earthquake to report their observations. This will help clarify the seismic parameters of the earthquake.

A series of earthquakes has been recorded in occupied Crimea recently. On June 22 alone, there were six earthquakes—with epicenters ranging in magnitude from 3.3 to 3.8 in the Black Sea—which, according to seismic classification, are considered perceptible tremors.

Even earlier, in April, four more tremors occurred on the southern coast of the peninsula: one at sea and three in the Uchan-Su area.

According to experts, Crimea is located in a seismically active zone where “release” occurs at the junction of tectonic plates.

Seismologists also warn of the threat of the so-called “century cycle”—similar to the devastating earthquake of 1927—and the forecast of a major earthquake by 2027 remains valid.

Due to violations of building codes on the peninsula, a potential powerful earthquake could cause serious damage.
