<span><span><span><span><span><span>Six firefighting crews are working at the scene. Rescue workers are trying to extinguish the flames using backpack fire extinguishers. To ensure continuous operations, water is being delivered by water trucks and motorcycles, and rescue workers are also laying main water lines.</span></span></span></span></span></span>
<span><span><span><span><span><span>The fire broke out in a remote mountainous area. It started on August 19. By the morning of August 20, the fire had spread to 10 hectares. On August 21, it was reported that the forest fire had expanded to 50 hectares within a day due to strong winds.</span></span></span></span></span></span>
<span><span><span><span><span><span>An extreme fire hazard is forecast for Crimea through August 27. During this period, it is strictly prohibited to build fires or engage in fire-hazardous activities.</span></span></span></span></span></span>
Earlier, a total blackout occurred in Russian-occupied Crimea. Power was lost following a fire at a power substation in Taman, Russia, which supplies electricity to the power bridge connecting the peninsula.
An activist from Simferopol, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the power bridge is the most critical componentofCrimea’s electricitysupplyfrom Russia. Its peak capacity is just over 800 megawatts—more than half of the peninsula’s maximum demand.
Currently, the power bridge is the main source of electricity, asthe Ukrainian Armed Forceshave damaged, to varying degrees, all major power generation facilities—the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant, the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant, and the Saki Combined Heat and Power Plant.
