Illegal mining on agricultural land was discovered on the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. The work damaged more than 55 hectares of soil, and environmental damage was estimated at almost UAH 10 million.

This was reported by Holos Kryma.

According to the publication, the violations were found in the Vyshenske village settlement of the Bilohirsk district. During the inspection, the occupation structures recorded earthworks on a plot of land that belongs to agricultural land. As a result, the fertile soil layer was significantly damaged.

After discovering the violations, the occupation court banned further mining and ordered the company that carried out the work to reclaim the land. The company was given one year to develop a project for the restoration of the site and perform the necessary work.

At the same time, according to Holos Kryma, Russia continues to systematically violate international law on the temporarily occupied peninsula. Despite statements about the protection of land and natural resources, Russian institutions are actively organizing illegal archaeological expeditions in Crimea and other occupied regions of Ukraine.

Earlier, the publication reported that Russia had issued 67 permits for archaeological work in the occupied Ukrainian territories. In particular, expeditions are being prepared by the Institute of Archeology of the Crimea, the Artesian Archeological Expedition of the Moscow Pedagogical State University and the Myrmecian Expedition of the State Hermitage Museum.

The occupiers are planning large-scale archaeological work in almost all areas of the peninsula. The excavations are to cover the Kerch Peninsula, the southern coast of Crimea, the foothills and the steppe part of the peninsula. Russian researchers claim that the territory of Crimea is allegedly only 10-15% explored, which is used as an excuse for further illegal work.
