In a village in Mykolaiv region, a dry grass fire spread to a private house. As a result, a woman died and her daughter was injured.
This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Oblast State Emergency Service.
According to rescuers, the fire was caused by a recklessly thrown cigarette butt.
"Heat and gusty winds caused the rapid spread of the fire, which spread to outbuildings and a residential building. It was in this house that the deceased woman born in 1939 lived," the rescuers said.
Her daughter tried to save her mother, but suffered burns to her hands and was hospitalized in a burn unit.
Firefighters extinguished the fire in the 100-square-meter house and 200-square-meter dry grass. A community rescue officer and police officers were working to clarify all the circumstances.
Heat and wind turn Mykolaiv region into a fire trap. Every day, large-scale fires engulf the region, destroying hectares of dead wood and outbuildings, and in some places claiming lives.
In total, during July 19 and on the night of July 20, rescuers registered 49 fires, 40 of which were dry grass, garbage, shrubs and stubble fires. The fires covered more than 87 hectares.
The State Emergency Service added that serious consequences were recorded in Snihurivka and the villages of Barativka, Hrechanivka, Ternuvate and Berezneguvate. In some of them, the fire destroyed outbuildings, and in Hrechanivka, 10 hectares of grass and 8 buildings burned down at once.
Over the course of a day, 176 rescuers and 42 units of SES equipment, as well as local fire brigades from different communities and private water trucks, were engaged in extinguishing the fire.
