Former Odesa Village Council Head Sentenced to 5 Years for Abuse of Power

Today, on March 21, a judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court approved a plea agreement between the SAPO prosecutor and the accused, former head of the Tsebrykivka village council in Odesa Oblast Volodymyr Barnasevych. He was charged with abuse of power or position.

This was reported by the press service of the Judiciary of Ukraine.

The defendant was sentenced to 5 years in prison with disqualification to hold positions related to organizational, administrative, or administrative and economic functions for 3 years and a fine of 1000 tax-free minimum incomes.

The High Anti-Corruption Court also ruled to release the defendant from serving a sentence of imprisonment with probation and set a probationary period of 2 years and 6 months.

The defendant is obliged to

to refrain from communicating with other defendants in other criminal proceedings (specified in the court decision), except when testifying in court and/or pre-trial investigation bodies, as well as participating in investigative (search) actions.

We are talking about the case of Mykola Derevyanko, a member of the regional council. The deputy and his wife are accused of fraud, which was carried out on the basis of forged decisions of the village council session. As a result, they were charged with embezzlement of 4,000 hectares worth over 240 million hryvnias.

In May, a deputy of the Odesa Regional Council of the VII and VIII convocations and his co-organizer wife were served with a notice of suspicion on the facts of forgery of documents and their use, fraudulent acquisition of state property, and official forgery.
