In Odesa, former military commissar Yevhen Borysov was released on bail for over UAH 20 million in the case of unauthorized abandonment of his unit. In total, over 100 million has already been paid for the defendant in various criminal proceedings.

The State Bureau of Investigation told Ukrayinska Pravda in a commentary that the bail in the amount of UAH 20,136,200 was paid on November 4. According to a source in law enforcement, the money was paid by Evagrain, a limited liability company.

It is suspected of unauthorized abandonment of the unit, and this is the fourth criminal proceeding in which significant funds have been paid.

In total, in three of the four cases involving Borisov, the amount of bail paid exceeded UAH 100 million. Previously, he was bailed out for UAH 36,364,000 and UAH 44,420,760.

At the end of October, the court set a bail of 20 million hryvnias for the former military commissar. His lawyers immediately announced that they would appeal the decision. The process of determining the restraint measure lasted almost a month, from October 3 to October 30. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 19.

During the hearing on October 30, the court heard a witness who was held together with Borisov in the Lukianivske pre-trial detention center. According to him, Borisov did not talk about his intentions to leave Ukraine, take his property abroad or participate in illegal human trafficking. The witness also emphasized that the former military man did not discuss topics related to smuggling.

On October 20, Borysov appeared in court and stated that he had been forcibly removed from the hospital. SBI Director Oleksiy Sukhachov responded that the bureau's employees acted in accordance with a court order to bring him in and did not exceed their authority.

Yevhen Borysov is the former head of the Odesa Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, who has been at the center of several high-profile criminal cases. Among them are illegal enrichment, military service evasion and unauthorized leaving of the unit. According to the investigation, he owns real estate abroad, in particular in Spain, and could have used his official position for his own enrichment.
