Investigators have sent to court the case of the chief specialist of the Department for Control and Monitoring of the Territory of the Peresypskyi District Administration of Odesa, who is accused of extortion and bribery.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the man faces imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

According to the investigation, the 44-year-old chief specialist of the department for control and monitoring of the district territory of one of the district administrations of the Odesa City Council received an appeal from a public organization regarding a couple who allegedly illegally built a car maintenance complex on an illegally occupied land plot. Instead of conducting an inspection, the civil servant met with the entrepreneurs' representative and demanded a monetary reward.

In exchange for USD 1,000, he promised not to inspect the entrepreneurs' activities, regardless of any violations, not to draw up administrative materials and not to take measures to dismantle the service station. And in case of refusal to provide the money, he threatened negative consequences for the business.

The police detained the employee in his car after he received the bribe. The court imposed on him a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 332,800, which he used.

Earlier, in Odesa, law enforcement officers exposed an official of one of the district territorial centers for recruitment and social support who demanded money for influencing personnel decisions. In return for UAH 300,000, he promised to help a soldier of an assault regiment transfer from the front line to a rear unit and to assist in his subsequent dismissal from service.
