The SBU exposed two engineers in Mykolaiv region who tried to transfer secret developments of a defense plant and important military data to Russia. They face life imprisonment for treason under martial law.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU in Mykolaiv region.
Counterintelligence uncovered a spy network in Mykolaiv region, centered on two leading design engineers at a defense plant. According to the investigation, the two men acted independently of each other, but were recruited by Russian FSB officers through a mutual acquaintance, a former employee of the plant who now lives in Russia.
One of the agents, acting as an FSB handler, tried to pass secret technical documentation related to the production of gas turbine engines to the enemy.
The second agent aimed to collect data on the volume of state defense orders at the enterprise, as well as to obtain information on the location of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and critical infrastructure facilities. He regularly traveled around the area by car, looking for the right locations, and had covert conversations with local residents to find out the necessary information in the dark.
The SBU conducted a series of searches in the suspects' residences and seized computer equipment, mobile phones and other evidence confirming their involvement in espionage activities in favor of the aggressor country.
The case file has now been submitted to court. Both engineers are accused of high treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a crime committed under martial law. The traitors face life imprisonment with confiscation of property. They are in custody and await trial.
Recently, the SBU detained an official during an official meeting in the building of the Pervomaisk City Council. She is suspected of high treason: investigators believe that she passed information about the movements of Ukrainian troops in southern Ukraine to Russian special services.
