In August 2022, a militant of the illegal armed group "DNR" raped a resident of the Beryslav district during the occupation of Kherson region.

This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office of Kherson region.

According to the investigation, when one of the settlements of Beryslav district of Kherson region was occupied by the enemy, the suspect, together with another Russian soldier, broke into the house of a local resident. Threatening the woman with firearms, the perpetrators searched the house. After that, they demanded information about ATO participants living in the village, as well as about people to whom, in their opinion, the victim could have passed the coordinates of the location of military equipment and personnel of the Russian Armed Forces.

Having failed to get what he wanted, the suspect, threatening and shooting at her, forced the woman to undress and sit on a chair. At this time, both occupants began drinking alcoholic beverages that they found in the apartment. Subsequently, the suspect, left alone with the victim, raped her.

Under the procedural supervision of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, the militant of the illegal armed group "DNR" was served a notice of suspicion in violation of the laws and customs of war in absentia.

Earlier, based on the SBU materials, a Russian war criminal who raped a Ukrainian woman during the seizure of a part of Kherson region was sentenced in absentia to 11 years in prison. It is a serviceman of the 34th separate motorized rifle brigade (mountain) of the 49th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation Armed Forces , Oleksandr Rubanov.

Law enforcement officers also identified and served a notice of suspicion to an FSB officer involved in the imprisonment and torture of civilians in Kherson region. According to the investigation, the 29-year-old suspect arrived in the occupied village of Bilozerka, Kherson region, after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. In collusion with other Russian servicemen, he illegally detained civilians in the premises of the seized district court, where the occupiers set up a torture chamber.

In addition, a soldier of the Russian Armed Forces was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the rape of a resident of Kherson region.
