The construction of a new 9.9 MW solar power plant is starting in Mykolaiv. The project is expected to increase the share of renewable energy in the region and provide additional resilience of the power system in the face of current challenges.

The procurement announcement was published on January 22 on the website of Mykolaivoblteploenergo.

The project is funded by a grant from the Danish Government, with NEFCO acting as the grantor, providing turnkey construction of the facility, including grid connection.

For urban infrastructure, a 10 MW capacity is a significant indicator. On a clear day, such a plant can produce about 10,000 kWh every hour. This amount of energy is enough to fully supply electricity to a small neighborhood of 3-5 thousand apartments or to run several dozen trolleybuses on the city's lines at the same time. In addition, SPP's generation is capable of fully covering the needs of a large hospital or key water utility pumping stations.

The main value of the new power plant is to ensure autonomous operation of boiler houses during possible blackouts. Since the facility is operated by Mykolaivoblteploenergo, solar energy will be used primarily to support pumps and automation for dozens of boiler rooms. This will keep the heat in the homes of Mykolaiv residents even in the event of critical damage to the general power grid.

In addition to the safety factor, the project promises significant benefits for the city budget. The plant is expected to produce 11 to 12 million kWh per year. Given the high commercial tariffs, Mykolaiv will be able to save tens of millions of hryvnias annually, allocating these funds for other community needs. Although solar generation depends on the time of year and daylight hours, this step is crucial in the city's transition to a modern and secure energy supply model.
